We’ve been doing “boutique” festival for years now, so make sure you book up your room (with shower and toilet !) in one of our many small hotels or guest houses, or spend the week in a self-catering place locally. East Dene: (Allnatt Centres) Fascinating building with the majority of its interiors untouched over the centuries. Former home of the poet Swinburne, East Dene is in Bonchurch at the Eastern end of Ventnor. It is a residential centre for school field trips and students mostly but also offers hostel style accommodation to groups attending the jazz or the folk & blues festivals here in Ventnor. The Leconfield: “Where nothing is overlooked but the sea” this friendly hotel in Upper Bonchurch on the main road into Ventnor itself is a non-smoking hotel for adults with a restaurant that also welcomes non-residents. Spyglass Inn: Award winning pub on the Ventnor Esplanade headland with three self-catering appartments which, being right where the sea lashes the rocks, are quite possibly the most dramatic and romantically located rooms in the town. Self Catering Flat on second floor of Victorian building, sitting at the top of Ventnor Cascades behind the Winter Gardens, with great sea views. Travelling by road to Ventnor:
From East Cowes Red Funnel car ferry terminal, follow signs to Newport then on to Ventnor by turning right at Blackwater.
From Fishbourne near Ryde, the main tourist route to travel is the A3055 through Sandown and Shanklin to Ventnor.
For travel from Yarmouth, follow signs to Newport then on to Ventnor by turning right at Blackwater. OR take the tourist route via Freshwater and along the “Military Road” on to Niton, St Lawrence and Ventnor.

Crossing the water:
We recommend the Southampton-East Cowes ferry route via Red Funnel Ferries. Alternatives for foot passengers are to catch the Southampton-West Cowes Redjet service. If you are coming to the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival from the mainland and you need a ferry, do book early as the ferries will be busy the weekend of the jazz festival, due to Easter holiday traffic coming on and going off the Island, in addition to the jazz festival. Why not travel earlier in the week and do some Island siteseeing before the jazz festival starts in Ventnor at midday Friday 17 April 2009? Shanklin station is the nearest train station and this is connected to Ventnor either by the Wightbus service or by taxi or the number 3 bus.

On the Isle of Wight Southern Vectis buses connect the Island. The number 3 directly serves Ventnor for the most hours a day and the number 6 provides an alternative route at various times. The Island’s main bus terminal is in Newport, from where all Island buses are linked. From East Cowes, catch the Newport bus and change to the number 3 or 6 to get to Ventnor. From Ryde bus station, take the number 3 to Ventnor.

The Isle of Wight Jazz Festival takes place in various venues around Ventnor, the self-proclaimed Capital of Jazz in the Deep South. Choose to stroll around town between the Stroller venues on a Day Pass or Weekend Stroller ticket, or buy specific event tickets for the main night shows at the Jazz Hub, or simply “do” the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival on a Gold special package or its Purple alternative (see ticket page for what each package contains). Whichever way you do it, the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival offers a boutique experience of Ventnor, packaged up in a bundle of all types of jazz for one wonderful weekend every April.

We can’t wait to announce the line up we got planned for 2009 - every year it gets even better here in Ventnor! This is the place to be on the weekend of 17,18,19 April 2009 – really - don’t miss out. Tickets will be strictly limited edition in 2009, so he who hesitates is he who will lose out. We are looking forward to seeing you all and welcoming more great jazz musicians of all different sounds and heritage. Here is a hint:

Friday night’s opening headliner this year features two major acts in a double bill, for a night of contrasts. Limited tickets £28.

Club Night 2009 – jazz dance step workshop with Perry Louis and the Jazzcotech dancers to get you in the groove for the night of live funk-jazz-r’n’b grooves of (to be announced) and the Jazzcotech Dancers plus hot DJ Perry (straight no chaser) Louis. The jazz festival club night was hailed as probably the best club night on the Isle of Wight 2007 and definitely the best in 2008 – so don’t miss it in 2009! This night is made for dancing, as jazz used to be. £20 ticket – Saturday 18^th April 2009.

Sunday night’s finale concert is one giant of a big band with Italian smooth plus an English diva. Limited, fully seated, tickets £25.

As well as the Stroller ticket programme and the three nights main events at the Jazz Hub, there will also be three extra totally separate ticketed concerts in the churches.
